We Are the World é um LP gravado em Janeiro de 1985 por 45 dos maiores nomes da música norte-americana, com o objetivo de arrecadação de fundos para o combate da fome na África. Os 45 astros formaram o grupo USA for Africa. O single, o LP e o clipe renderam cerca de 55 milhões de dólares.
Inspirado pela reunião que ficou conhecida como Band Aid, organizou a gravação do single We Are the World, escrito por Michael Jackson. O single foi lançado em 1985 para arrecadar fundos para a campanha USA for Africa, em benefício de famílias da África. ABOUT IMAGINE
John: ‘Imagine’ is a song conceived in my head without melody. The first verse came to me very quickly in the form of a childlike street chant ‘da da da da da dee dee da dee da ee a eeeh’. The piano intro I’ve had hanging around in my head for a few years – the chords and melody followed naturally from this.
The middle eight was ‘conceived’ to finish off the song. I think it works as a song. Of course, there is always room for improvement – otherwise I wouldn’t make any more. The third verse came to me in an eight-seater plane. It’s a song for children.
Yoko: ‘Cloud Piece’: ‘Imagine the clouds dripping, dig a hole in your garden to put them in.’ This is not a piece of poetry. Poetry to me is nouns or adjectives. This is verbs. And you have to do them. These are all instructions and when you just do it, then you start to understand it.
John: ‘Imagine’ was inspired by Yoko’s Grapefruit. There’s a lot of pieces in it saying like ‘Imagine this’ or ‘Imagine that’. If you get a copy of Grapefruit and look through, you’ll see where I was influenced by her. ‘Imagine’ could never have been written without her. And I know she helped on a lot of the lyrics but I wasn’t man enough to let her have credit for it. So that song was actually written by John & Yoko, but I was still selfish enough and unaware enough to take her contribution without acknowledging it. The song itself expresses what I’d learned through being with Yoko and my own feelings on it. It should really have said ‘Lennon/Ono’ on that song, because she contributed a lot of that song.
Alan White (drummer): Every song we did on Imagine, John would make us read the lyrics and insist that we understood the meaning of the song before started playing it. That had quite an impact for me.
Klaus Voormann (bass): When we played ‘Imagine’ and heard the lyrics, the possibility that this was going to be such a big song was apparent. It definitely was. I even thought I didn’t want to play on it because it was so amazing with just John playing piano. It was so true and honest. That would have been enough. I hope you’ve got a version of just John playing it.
Phil McDonald (engineer): ‘Imagine’ was one of the easiest tracks to record, almost all live, in a few takes. We mixed the track at Tittenhurst and Phil Spector added strings on top of the stereo tape in the USA.
Yoko: John and I were both artists and we were living together, so we inspired each other. And the song ‘Imagine’ embodied what we believed together at the time. John and I met – he comes from the West and I come from the East – and still we are together. We have this oneness and ‘the whole world would eventually become one’ is the sense that we will all be café-au-lait colour and we will all be very happy together. All these instructions are for people for how to spend eternity, because we have lots of time.
John: If you can imagine a world of peace, if you can imagine a world with no denominations of religion – not without religion, whatever religion is – but without this divisive ‘My god is bigger than your god’ business.... Then, if you can imagine the possibility, then it can be true.
Yoko: ‘Imagine’ is a complete vision. A succinct bible of truth. It will start to unfold as you believe in it. The film? Well, it just happened naturally. I was well aware of the symbolism of everything – closing and then opening the shutters to let the light in. It’s rather personal, but I had a definite reason why I smiled at the end, in addition to loving being next to John.

Recorded on February 1st, 2010, in the same studio as the original 25 years earlier (Henson Recording Studios, formerly A&M Recording Studios) We Are The World 25 For Haiti, in which Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie serve as executive producers and producers, was created in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.
Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), whose own personal efforts as well as those of Artists for Peace and Justice have already saved countless lives in Haiti, filmed the private recording session to create the accompanying video and behind-the-scenes production, and serves as Film Director and as an Executive Producer with Jones, Richie, Jean, Phillips and Tortorici.
The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers. The recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti. -

He was the ultimate showman, but he kept his private life away from the prying eyes of the media; a larger than life rock star who loved disco, classical music and ballet. He was a restless spirit, a true chameleon who revelled in his own contradictions.

This lovely footage was filmed at La Nit festival at Montjurich Castle in Barcelona on October 8th 1988, by Gavin Taylor. 'How Can I Go On' was the third and last single to be released from the 'Barcelona' album. See also the beautiful 'Barcelona' and 'The Golden Boy', also filmed at this event. The single was released in the UK on 23rd January 1989.

Lionel Richie is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and actor. Beginning in 1968, he was lead singer and saxophonist of the musical group Commodores; established as a popular soul group. Over time, Richie wrote and sang more romantic, easy-listening ballads such as Easy, Three Times a Lady, Still, and the tragic breakup ballad Sail On. By the late 1970s he had begun to accept songwriting commissions from other artists. He composed Lady for Kenny Rogers, which hit #1 in 1980, and produced Rogers' album Share Your Love the following year. Richie and Rogers maintained a strong friendship in later years.
Also1981 Richie sang the theme song for the film Endless Love, a duet with Diana Ross. Issued as a single. The song topped the Pop charts all over the world, and became one of Motown's biggest hits (in the US it sold 2 million copies and became a platinum single record).
Its success encouraged Richie to branch out into a full-fledged solo career in 1982. Afterwards came the success of “Truly,” “All Night Long,” “Hello,” and “Say You (Say Me”) for which he won his Oscar and a Golden Globe. His 1982 self-titled album established a run of platinum plus albums throughout the 80’s, with 1986’s Dancing On The Ceiling “ becoming a pop and R&B classic. He also found time to co-write with Michael Jackson what eventually would become pop’s most famous anthem, the Live-Aid tune “We Are The World.”
Richie has won several awards, among them Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Truly in 1982. In 1982 he was nominated for Best Original Song for the film Endless Love. He won the Album of the Year for Can't Slow Down and Producer of the Year (Non-Classical) in 1984. Lionel Richie has won four Grammy Awards including Song of the Year in 1985 for We Are the World. Nominated for two Golden Globe awards and won one. In 1986 he was nominated and won the award for Best Original Song for the film White Nights.
He has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time.
In 2012, Lionel went back to his Tuskegee roots by re-working some of his biggest hits as duets with country superstars such as Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, and Little Big Town. The album was one the biggest of his career reaching #1 on the Billboard Top 200 list and garnering huge critical acclaim

La canción es una adaptación al español de la canción de 1985 We Are the World por Emilio Y Gloria Estefan, la cual fue escrita por los músicos estadounidenses Michael Jackson y Lionel Richie, y grabada por USA for Africa para luchar contra la hambruna en África. Emilio y Gloria Estefan, junto con Quincy Jones, Daddy Yankee y otros cantantes unieron fuerzas con Univision para grabar una versión en español de We Are the World para ayudar a las víctimas del terremoto de Haití. Univision es el co-productor y distribuidor de la canción, lanzada el 1 de marzo del 2010. En la grabación participaron titanes de la música de los 80 y los 90 haciendo de esta canción un himno para toda la comunidad Latina. El tema logró ser número uno en México y Japon, tres en Estados Unidos y cinco en España. Además, debutó en todas las listas de países latinos. Em 1985, Michael Jackson e Lionel Richie compuseram We are the World (Nós somos o mundo), que foi gravada por 45 artistas americanos em prol do combate à fome na África.
25 anos depois, esta mesma música foi regravada para ajudar as vítimas do terremoto que abalou o Haiti e causou danos tanto ao país quanto ao coração de seu povo. O Brasil também marca presença neste momento, ao seguir a iniciativa de outros grupos ao redor do mundo que fizeram suas próprias versões da música We Are The World 25 for Haiti.
O projeto Um Mundo bem Melhor - versão brasileira do movimento, idealizada pelos músicos e produtores brasilienses Walter Amantéa e Hudson Borges - tem propósito mais abrangente do que ajudar as comunidades do Haiti e do Chile, prejudicadas pelos fortes terremotos dos últimos meses. O movimento visa também colaborar com campanhas de solidariedade e amor ao próximo, mobilizações e ações em prol da construção de um Brasil ambientalmente sustentável, livre da fome e da miséria.
Com uma versão em português da canção, e com a participação de dezenas de grandes artistas de Brasília, o projeto busca sensibilizar as pessoas para o fato de que cada um é responsável por construir um mundo melhor.
